This Carbon Kevlar Paddle Shaft is used to replace a broken shaft or in the construction of a new paddle (where you already have the paddle blades). They are a circular shaft (without any indexing) so the paddles can be set at any angle and the shaft can be cut to adjust the total paddle length.
Carbon Kevlar is the toughest of the shafts we stock and is mainly used by whitewater paddlers and expedition kayakers where durability is key.
The length of the shaft is at least 140cm (may be longer)
It has an external Ø (diameter) of be 28.9 mm
an internal Ø of 26.4mm internal
If the shaft inserts into your paddle blade you will be sanding the external surface to help the glue adhere so be aware that it will shrink slightly with this process.
The Internal Ø dimensions are used for either
- Joiners (i.e. when make a 2 or 4 piece paddle) you will need to buy a spigot that fits. It should fit as a tolerance fit (Slide in and out but not wiggle) The external diameter of the spigot should be the same as the internal diameter of the shaft.
or
- When the paddle blade inserts inside the shaft. You will need to measure the blade spigot in this case. Note however that you can sand your paddle spigot to make it smaller and you can fill excess gaps with a gap filling glue or resin (should the paddle spigot not be round, or two small etc.) so it does not need to be an as exact fit in this case
External Diameter is used for selecting the ferrule section if installing an adjustable Joiner e.g in this case we suggest the use the Kajaksport 29mm -26.5mm Ferrule
This is the shaft only and does not come with paddle blades
Other paddle parts such as 2 piece joiners, spigots, locators, heat shrink etc. are available from us separately.
